Ninety-four years ago, Model Coverall Service, Inc. founder Max Subar saw a chance to serve the West Michigan community through the creation of a rental linen service. Eleven years later, Hendrik Meijer founded the first Meijer grocery store in Greenville, Michigan.
Today, Model continues to offer uniform rental along with many more services, and Meijer operates 208 stores throughout Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and Kentucky. Both companies place high value on giving back to the community. Model is pleased to partner with Meijer’s LPGA Classic event for hunger relief through local food pantries.
The main facet of Meijer’s hunger relief campaign is the Meijer Simply Give program, of which the LPGA golf tournament is an important facet. Regular Meijer customers will recognize the ten-dollar gift cards featuring an orange “Simply Give” logo on them, which can be purchased during checkout. They then go out to local food pantries as certificates to Meijer. Each Meijer store partners with a specific food pantry during Simply Give campaigns, so all donations generated during each campaign are kept within the immediate community.
One of our favorite parts of the Simply Give program is the flexibility it provides local food pantries. At Model, we don’t do your job for you; we just offer you the tools you need to be the best at what you do. In a similar vein, the Simply Give program doesn’t donate actual food items to the pantries. But it opens the door for them to choose exactly what their communities need most—including baby food, formula, diapers, and wipes.
Meijer’s most recent Simply Give campaign this past spring ended with over $3 million in donations, or 33 million meals. This was the most successful campaign so far, and we’re excited to see Simply Give keep growing and making a difference in Meijer communities.
