Model Coverall Service, Inc., the Subar Family, and Community Theatre in Grand Rapids and West Michigan

Model and the Subar family have been longtime supporters of the theatre community in Grand Rapids.  Yes….we’ve given financial support to many of the theatres in Grand Rapids.

But our most “famous” contribution is Judy Subar, who has appeared over the past 70 years, and continues to appear, in a wide range ofcommunity theatre:  children’s theatre, supporting roles, singing and dancing roles, and even leading woman roles (The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, among others).  Her renowned talents and boundless energy have graced the stages of: Circle, Grand Rapids Civic, Spectrum, Actors’, Jewish Theatre GR, and more.  Judy has performed for seniors and kids at nursing homes, churches, synagogues, libraries and more all across West Michigan.  Mom…you are our star.   Even Dad, Jerry Subar, performed at the Circle Theatre, opposite Mom as husband and wife leads,  back in the 1960s!  Sons Dean, Jon, and Richard also appeared onstage locally. Dean played Huck Finn and the Mayor of Munchkin City at the old Civic.  Richard was even in locally written and produced shows, by Adrian Swets (a local architect), and John McNamara (now of Hollywood fame).  Got to admit, I was even in a children’s show at the Civic back in 5th grade.  We all appeared in our high school productions.  Most famously, Richard was Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof.  He received rave reviews, and actually has gone on to write and produce his own children’s music CDs.

Most recently, Model proudly provided some coveralls as costumes for a production at the Wealthy Theatre in Grand Rapids.  If you’ve never been there, go.  It is a great old theatre in a rejuvenated part of GR.  The show was called “Frivolous Follies– A Modern Vaudeville Sh’Bang!”.  It was funny and lively, and very well received.  Look for more Frivolous Follies in March and July.
